How to Add, Delete, and Change Master Codes for Every Major Brand

Locksmith Tip: Always perform these steps with your door OPEN to avoid getting locked out during testing!

1. Schlage (Encode, Sense, Connect)

You need your 6-digit Programming Code (found on the back of the lock or the manual).

Add User Code: Enter Programming Code → Press 1 → Enter New User Code (4 digits) → Re-enter New User Code.
Delete User Code: Enter Programming Code → Press 2 → Enter Code to Delete → Re-enter Code to Delete.
Change Master Code: Enter Programming Code → Press 3 → Enter New 6-digit Code → Re-enter New 6-digit Code.

Most Kwikset locks use a physical Program Button under the battery cover.

Add User Code: Press Program Button → Enter New User Code (4-8 digits) → Press Lock.
Delete ALL Codes: Press Program Button → Press Lock → Press 9-9-9-9 → Press Lock.
With Master Code: Press Program Button → Enter Master Code → Press Lock → Press 1 → Enter New User Code → Press Lock.

Yale uses a voice-guided menu or the Gear Icon.

Add User Code: Enter Master PIN → Press Gear → Press 2 → Press Gear → Press 1 → Press Gear → Enter New Code → Press Gear.
Delete User Code: Enter Master PIN → Press Gear → Press 2 → Press Gear → Press 3 → Press Gear → Enter Code to Delete → Press Gear.
Change Master PIN: Wake lock → Enter Master PIN → Press Gear → Press 1 → Press Gear → Enter New Master PIN → Press Gear.

Best managed via the U-tec App, but manual steps are available on the keypad:

Enter Menu: Press and hold the Enter button for 3 seconds → Enter Admin Code.
Add User: In Menu, press 1 → Enter New Code → Press Enter → Re-enter Code → Press Enter.
Delete User: In Menu, press 2 → Enter User ID or Code to delete → Press Enter.

For these brands, physical keypad programming is often disabled once the lock is paired with a phone. Use these universal steps:

Open App → Tap Guest Icon → Tap Invite or select existing user → Edit/Add 4-6 digit PIN → Save.

Eufy / Aqara:

Open App → Select Lock → Tap Manage Access (Eufy) or User Management (Aqara) → Add PIN/Fingerprint.
